ePORTFOLIO ACTIVITY 1
REFLECTION OF ePORTFOLIO ACTIVITY 1
The first eportfolio tested our knowledge on the topics 1, 2 and 3. Firstly, we learned about the USP computer system tools and got familiarized with using of USP ICT Tools and navigating through USP Website. In topic 2, the key tools used in UU100 course was discussed in detail explaining the use of TurnItIn, MOODLE and Student Webmail. For topic 3, we looked into the functions of Microsoft Windows and also learnt some basic computing skills with Microsoft Word. The skills that were applied in eportfolio activity one, Part A required the knowledge on USP ICT Tools whereby correct ICT Tools had to be identified for given descriptions. While, Part B required use to write reports on the review of Smartphone hardware and Anti-Virus Software. This tested our skills of hardware requirements and basic computing skills. This activity was successfully completed with the objectives of the eportfolio being accomplished. The objectives of this eportfolio were accessing and using USP’s ICT available on and off campus and identifying and using different features of the computer system.

INTRODUCTION TO ePORTFOLIO ACTIVITY 2
My ePortfolio Activity 2 contains files that reflect my learning skills from the completion of Topic 5 and Topic 6. I have also demonstrated how to use different search engines and search strategies and how these are very useful in my education and other aspects of my life outside USP.
ePORTFOLIO ACTIVITY 2
REFLECTION OF ePORTFOLIO ACTIVITY 2
E-portfolio Activity 2 tested our UU100 knowledge in the topics 5 and 6. Topic 5 was about the fundamentals if information whereby we learnt about the new role of information in the new era of information age whereby Topic 6 that was majority test in this activity concerned with the search strategies and sourcing of online information. E-portfolio Activity 2 required us to use different web search tools for locating required information for resource description in part A. Part A had 4 questions in it. In each question we had to determine the search engine used, the search strategies applied and its description with relevant citations noted down.
In information resource i of Part A, the search tool used was the Google Basic Search Engine. The basic search option was used as it was useful for conducting basic and quick searches and with the search techniques combined, it provided me with very effective searching. The feature of Google Basic Search which helped me find required information was the simplicity of the Search Engine’s user interface. This made it very easy to navigate through the search engine and locate relevant resources from the search.
For information resource ii, the search tool used was the Google advanced search. It was used as it has the ability to specifically state the number of search techniques which helped to refine the search strategies hence providing more relevant results. The feature of Google Advanced needed was its ability to narrow down the search whereby we had the ability to choose site that were made by government, organizations and many others. The “site or domain” section was used to search for government websites.
For information resource iii, the Yahoo subject directory was used as it made it very easy to locate very relevant resources as the sites shown during the search were selected by human experts rather than electronic spiders and robots. The subject directory basic search feature was very useful as it made it very easier to search for resources rather than using traditional subject directories search whereby we had to locate information by selecting categories then going to its sub-categories and so on.
The Yippy Meta Search was used in order to get results for resource information iv. It was used it combines searches for many several search engines into one compact search. It organizes its searches according to best results appearing first. The feature of Yippy Meta Search that helped a lot was its ability to show results in clustered form into topics and subtopics. This was displayed in the left hand side of the webpage which made it easier to locate topics that were needed to achieve required information.
After completion of E-portfolio Activity 2, it helped me to enhance my knowledge on the topics 5 and 6. The compilation of the E-portfolio Activity was done keeping in mind the objectives therefore the objectives were successfully accomplished. The objectives for this activity were to:
- Recognise the structure of information, that is, how it is produced, organised and disseminated.
- Apply appropriate techniques in formulating effective search strategies to locate relevant information resources.
- Navigate and utilise the Web, the USP Library website, the USP Library catalogue, and an online database subscribed by the USP Library to locate relevant and scholarly information resources.

INTRODUCTION TO ePORTFOLIO ACTIVITY 3
My ePortfolio Activity 3 folder contains files that reflect my learning skills from the completion of Topic 8 and 9. I have also demonstrated how the USP Laucala Library Catalogue and Proquest database works in order to locate relevant resource information and how it is useful in my education and other aspects of my life outside USP.
ePORTFOLIO ACTIVITY 3
REFLECTION OF ePORTFOLIO ACTIVITY 3
E-portfolio Activity 3 tested our knowledge on the topics 8 and 9. Topic 8 was concerned with the USP library website and procedures on how to go about using the Laucala Library Catalogue search tool. For Topic 9, we looked into an online database called ProQuest and learned how to search for resources while using the search techniques effectively.
For E-portfolio Activity 3, we were required to interpret a course reading list and find these resources information using Laucala Library Catalogue and ProQuest database. Appropriate search strategies and techniques were used to locate the relevant information of the resources.
From the reading list in Part A, questions i and iii used the Laucala Library Catalogue to locate the required resource information. One feature of this method that was proved to be very helpful while completing the task was its ability to use different variety of search styles/categories. The different types of search strategies utilized by this library catalogue were title, author, advanced and subject search options. During this task only title and advanced search style was used hence allowing users to better specify the information that was needed. Another helpful feature of Laucala Library Catalogue was its capability of showing related subject of the resource information needed. This feature helped us to complete the last part of the table which was the ‘Related Link’ section whereby we had to provide citation for links related to the main subject. It also enabled users to broaden their knowledge about the topics they doing research on. One feature which was unhelpful to me during this activity was that collection of resources in the library was very limited. The Laucala Library Catalogue search results only showed those resources that were present in the library. This drawback made us to look at other alternatives for searching the relevant information. So, ProQuest database was used to find information that was not available in the limited database of the Laucala Library Catalogue.
The remaining 2 questions in Part A (ii and iv) used the ProQuest database to search and locate relevant information about the given resources. One of the features of ProQuest database which claimed to be very helpful was its range of search capacity. ProQuest is a multidisciplinary aggregator hosting 4 large database hence providing great diversity of resources. It helped us to locate certain resources that were not available in the Laucala Library Catalogue. Another helpful feature of the ProQuest database is similar to the library catalogue which was the variety of search options it had i.e. basic, publication and advanced search. The advanced search technique was employed to locate the remaining 2 resources as it helped to me to further specify the details on the resource I was looking for such as the document type, source type, date ranges and etc. This really narrowed down my search result allowing me to locate required information much quicker. One of the unhelpful features of the ProQuest database was regarding its accessibility. ProQuest database being subscribed to the USP Network allows its features to be fully utilized only when in that particular network coverage. This made it difficult for students to enter and use ProQuest database from their homes causing a lot of delays in work. However, there were a handful number of students who were able to enter the database from their homes but after using for a while it gave them proxy error. There Laucala Catalogue was a better source to use.
After the completion of E-portfolio Activity 3, it helped me enhance my knowledge on topics 8 and 9. This activity was successfully completed with the objectives of the e-portfolio being accomplished. The objectives of this activity were:
- Apply appropriate technique in formulating effective search strategies to locate relevant information resource.
- Navigate and utilize the Web, the USP Library Website, the USP Library Catalogue, and an online database subscribed by the USP Library to locate relevant and scholarly information resources.

INTRODUCTION TO ePORTFOLIO ACTIVITY 4
My ePortfolio activity 4 folder contains files that reflect my learning skills from the completion of Topic 10. I have also demonstrated how to choose the best information resource by evaluating it with START evaluation criteria thus proving very useful in my education and other aspects of my life outside USP.
ePORTFOLIO ACTIVITY 4
REFLECTION OF ePORTFOLIO ACTIVITY 4
E-portfolio activity 4 tested our knowledge on the issue related to Topic 10 which was regarding the evaluation of the information resources. For this activity, we had to choose the best resource from the 2 given by critically evaluating the information resource using the START evaluation criteria.
Information resources need to be carefully evaluated before using it. One of the reasons for doing this is to obtain the most appropriate information of the assignment/research as not all information found is relevant. There are billions of resources available on the web therefore resources need to be evaluated to see whether it gives the most useful and relevant information or not. Another reason for critically evaluating resources is to check whether the resource is credible enough it to be used in assignments. Not all information found on the net are correct or trustworthy hence resources need to be checked for proper authorization, correct referencing evidence or whether information is bias or fair. Therefore, it is wise to evaluate resources to check for authenticity of information in the resource.
After the completion of the E-portfolio activity 4, it helped to enhance my knowledge on topic 10. This activity was successfully completed with objectives of the e-portfolio being achieved. The objectives of this e-portfolio were:
- Use appropriate referencing software and tools.
- Critically evaluate information resources and synthesise information in academic writings.

ePORTFOLIO ACTIVITY 5
REFLECTION OF ePORTFOLIO ACTIVITY 5
E-portfolio Activity 5 tested our knowledge on topic 12 which was regarding analytical reports in which we learnt how to create tables, charts and diagrams via Microsoft Excel 2007/2010. This E-portfolio Activity required us to create pivot table and chart from the given data and analyze it in order answer the questions in the summary sheet.
The useful features of Microsoft Excel used in report designing was its ability to present data in variety of graphical form starting from graphs, tables , to diagrams. This helped to get a better understanding of the data and the situation which helped to better interpret it. Another useful feature was its function/formula attribute which allowed us to make tedious calculations using just the excel sheet which made the work faster.
With the use of these useful features, this activity was successfully completed with the objectives of the e-portfolio activity being fully achieved. The objectives of this activity were:
- Use standard applications for creating documents, presentations and spreadsheets.
- Recognize the structure of information, that is, how it is produced, organized and disseminated.

These skills are very useful in my life in both inside and outside USP.
ePORTFOLIO ACTIVITY 6
REFLECTION OF ePORTFOLIO ACTIVITY 6
E-portfolio 6 tested our knowledge on topics 7 and 13. Topic 7 was regarding presentation of reports whereby we learnt how to use Microsoft PowerPoint and online Prezi to create effective, informative and interesting presentations while in topic 13 was about the social and ethical uses of information technology in which we learnt about different cybercrimes. In this activity, we were required to choose a particular cybercrime and prepare a prezi presentation on it while keeping in mind the requirements.
E-portfolio Activity 6 helped me to gain experience and skills on many things. One of it was to employ the knowledge of search techniques and evaluating of information to gather information needed for the presentation. Another experience I gained was in creating the prezi presentation which helped me to learn more about its amazing features such as online image searcher and the variety of customization options. I also learned in depth about cyber crimes and the seriousness of this issue is.
The compilation of e-portfolio activity 6 was done keeping in mind the objectives hence these objectives were successfully achieved. The objectives of e-portfolio activity 6 were:
- Use standard applications for creating documents, presentations and spread-sheets.
- Apply appropriate techniques in formulating effective search strategies to locate relevant information resources
