Year 3 Semester 2: What are my strengths that will help me after I graduate?
Rationale:
Building from what was done last semester, I have taken some time to reflect on the personal knowledge and skills I have developed during my study and experiences. Approaching graduation time, and with my future career awaiting in industry service, I realized how important it was to align my strengths with expectations in the professional world. It's not just about the technical skills learned but also the ability to communicate with others and a problem-solving mindset that will be very helpful in my later career.
From what I can gather about my skills and responsibilities, I will grade myself against SFIA Level 3: Apply. This is a person who "works independently; manages small projects or parts of large projects; for simple problems, ensures adherence to protocols; and applies specialist knowledge." In M.Y Group Fiji Limited, this can largely relate to my managing the IT system of the company independently and ensuring it runs smoothly. Also, programming languages in Python, Java, C++, JavaScript, and VB.NET further extend the experience toward system development, integration, and maintenance capabilities.
It was IS 314 that also provided evidence to my SFIA Level 3 competency through the project Computing skills developed in the effective task organization and time-setting, with the maintenance of collaboration with the team during the working process. Furthermore, all these experiences helped me develop not only technical skills but also to become a better leader and communicator.
Reflection
My academic and professional knowledge and skills have equipped me with an all-rounded set of skills, especially in the areas of IT management, software development, and communication. I look forward to graduating with skills of software engineering that lays a firm technical and professional foundation for entering the workforce.
